Flying hotel will take tourists to the North Pole for US$ 210,000 per room

A monumental project by the Swedish company OceanSky Cruises envisions a flying hotel in the skies from 2024, which will take guests on expeditions from Svalbard to the North Pole for the price tag of US$ 210,000 for a room for two. The project revolves around a 100 meter long Airlander 10 blimp. The airship’s 16 passengers will be served arctic-inspired cuisine by an award-winning chef, in a separate dining area.

The airship’s interior will be equipped with the comfort level of a luxury hotel. Its spacious cabins have large panoramic windows that maximize the view. The equipment, in turn, combines the buoyancy of helium with the aerodynamic lift created by the shape of its hull, resulting in a smooth and silent flight, even being propelled by four propellers.

The cabin is not pressurized, so the equipment flies relatively low, allowing for the best views and experiences. The blimp also moves so slowly and smoothly that OceanSky Cruises says no seat belts are required on board.

The airship has representative space and payload capacity, allowing for more space and facilities on board and therefore a new level of luxury in travel. It also doesn’t need airports for takeoff and landing, meaning passengers can disembark and board in remote locations during expeditions.

Even as part of the project, OceanSky Cruises wants to be the first company in the world to land at the North Pole with an airship of this size. With that, passengers will embark on a full-day tour of the Arctic plains led by climate expert and activist Robert Swan.

Carl Oscar-Lawaczeck, CEO and Founder of OceanSky Cruises, said: “ The North Pole expedition is for the traveler who wants to experience the Arctic in a unique way while contributing to the development of sustainable travel.” He adds: “Ronald Amundsen flew from Svalbard and flew over the North Pole in 1926 with the airship ‘Norge’. Now we’re doing the same expedition, and we’re also going to land at the North Pole. Passengers will enjoy Arctic nature with serenity and comfort in a modern and efficient flying vehicle. They will pioneer a new way of traveling . ”

Describing itself as a “airship airline” , OceanSky Cruises is on a mission to make sustainable aviation a reality through airships as a low-emission alternative to traveling the world. Making it possible to fly continuously for days without the need for supporting infrastructure, airships present an attractive proposition for high-end adventures and access to remote locations around the world with minimal environmental impact.
